HOLLISTER – Hollister product Daniel Barone signed a minor league contract with the Oakland Athletics organization last month.

After being released by the Triple-A New Orleans Zephyrs, which were within the Florida Marlins organization, Barone signed a minor league contract with the Athletics on June 25, just nine days later.

Barone is currently pitching for the Midland Rockhounds of the Double-A Texas League.

Barone could not be reached for comment at press time.

A 2001 graduate of San Benito High School, Barone was selected in the 11th round of the 2004 First-Year Player Draft out of Sonoma State. He eventually made his Major League debut on Aug. 10, 2007, when he started on the hill for the Marlins at Shea Stadium in New York against the Mets.

At Triple-A New Orleans, Barone compiled a 2-6 record with a 5.51 earned run average. He has since gone 0-2 at Double-A Midland.
