Going undefeated (4-0), including three one-run victories, the Gilroy 12U South County Titans travel baseball team won the Team Appreciation Tournament at Twin Creeks in Sunnyvale over the weekend – the team’s second championship in as many weeks.

A squeeze bunt put down by Anthony Drysdale to plate Dillon McFarland in the fifth inning of the championship game against the Redwood City Rays provided the Titans all the offense they needed.

Titans’ starting pitcher Aidan Goicovich tossed five scoreless innings and gave way to Dylan McPhillips and Mikey Sanchez as they combined to preserve the 1-0 lead and secure the tournament title.

The road to the championship began Saturday with a narrow 6-5 victory over the Westslide Sliders. The Titans allowed two quick runs before grabbing a 4-2 lead. However, the Sliders answered right back with three runs to take a 5-4 advantage. The Titans needed their final at-bats but tied the game in the bottom of the sixth inning and won the game with a Sanchez’s bases loaded, two-out RBI-single.

Gilroy left little doubt in the second game of the day, trumping the Preparing Legends 16-3 to earn the No. 2-seed into Sunday’s bracket play.

The Titans faces the Sliders once again in the semifinals and, in similar fashion, defeated the familiar foe 6-5 behind two triples from Sanchez. The win put the Titans in the final against No. 1 Redwood City.
