Betty Lou Gubser Dexter February 23, 1925 – July 23, 2012

Resident of Gilroy, It is with great sadness that the family of Betty Lou Gubser Dexter announces herpassing.  Betty peacefully returned to the Lord on July 23, 2012.Betty was born on February 23, 1925 in Gilroy, California to Joseph and Marie Heilmann Gubser.  She was the fifth of their six children and was raised in the family home on Frazier Lake Road.  Her father, Joseph Gubser Sr., and her brother, Joseph Gubser, Jr., became pioneers in the Gilroy garlic industry.
 Betty attended San Ysidro Elementary School and that’s where she met her future husband, Robert Roy Dexter. After graduating from San Ysidro she went on to Gilroy High School where she became Secretary of the Student Body. Upon graduating from high school she went to The Western Union School and was trained as a Teletype operator. During World War II she was assigned to the Western Union Branch Office in Stockton, CA as a Teletype operator.
 Robert and Betty Dexter were married on December 26, 1944.  They shared a wonderful life together for 51 years and raised two children. Roberta Ann was born on November 2, 1946 and Robert Roy II was born on November 26, 1949.
 Betty worked hard in the prune orchards with her husband Bob on Pacheco Pass Highway. They built their first home on that ranch and did most of the work on their home themselves.  Later, they moved to their final home onCanada Road.
 Betty was active in the San Ysidro Ladies Club as its
president for 17 years, cared for family members when they were in poor health, loved her garden, loved her animals, loved to cook, loved to travel and loved her family abundantly.  She belonged to the California   Pioneers of Santa Clara County and was a member of the Gilroy Presbyterian Church.
 Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Marie Gubser, her siblings, Marie Gurley, Loraine Mitchell, Anna Buzzini, Joseph Gubser Jr., her husband Robert Roy Dexter, her son Robert Roy Dexter II. and her great-grandson Samuel StevenWeiss.
 Betty will always be lovingly remembered by her daughter Roberta Anderson (husband Philip), her daughter-in-law Norene Dexter, her grandchildren Randall Anderson (wifeJennifer), Robin Dexter Moss, Kimberly Prater (husband Mike) and Kristin Weiss (husband Steve). Her great grandchildren Valerie and Jacob Moss, Ethan Anderson and Hannah and Bethany Weiss will also cherish Betty’s memory. Betty will be missed by her sister Arlene Painter (husband Eugene), her sister-in-law Mary Dexter and many nieces and nephews.
 Betty was a loving wife and mother, a wonderful grandmother and a true friend. Her life was not only a gift to her family, but also to all who knew her. Her memory is a blessing that will be cherished forever.
 A celebration of her life will be held on August 11, 2012, at 4:00 P.M. at the Gilroy Presbyterian Church, 6000 Miller Avenue, Gilroy, CA.
 In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Betty’s honor to the American Diabetes Association, or the Gilroy Presbyterian Church, 6000 Miller Avenue, Gilroy, CA 95020.
