Gilroy Fire Department paramedics and Gilroy Police officer Stan Devlin tend to Gilroy resident Ugene Elliott, 61, after he was struck by a Honda driven by Flumencio Urenda, 22, of Gilroy. According to witness Jonas Austin, who was in the alley making a delivery, Elliott rode his bike into the path of Urenda’s car, as Urenda traveled east on Sixth Street approaching the stoplight at Monterey. Elliott was riding north from the alley behind Milias Apartments at 7397 Monterey St. when he attempted to cross Sixth Street on his bike at 8am Tuesday. Urenda struck Elliott with his the right front end, Elliott hit the windshield and came to rest about 11 feet from the vehicle. Elliot was conscious when transported by ambulance to Saint Louise Hospital and then flown by CALSTAR to a San Jose trauma center, where he was treated and kept overnight for observation.
