GILROY — In Sacramento, the 2004 California State Fair is getting ready to kick off their three week extravaganza on August 20.
The theme this year is Big Fun and Good Times, and with many new exhibits and attractions, the fair plans to be just that.
First, the Ralph’s Supermarket Concert Series features famous acts such as Hootie and the Blowfish, Maroon 5, Mya, Stacie Orrico, The Doobie Brothers, and Huey Lewis and the News.
New exhibits coming to the fair include Baseball, America’s Game, a touring baseball festival featuring historical exhibits and interactive events. Baseball fans can take a turn in a batting cage, or test their knowledge of baseball trivia during a mock quiz show.
Visitors can also see things that are “Uniquely Californian” in an exhibit dedicated to the diverse places, people, natural beauty, culture and technology of California.
Of course, there will be returning favorites, such as the Counties Exhibit, demolition derbies, creative arts, and youth exhibits. There will also be the Toyota Xtreme Zone, which features the Mobile Skatepark Series. The series combines top pro skateboarding, BMX and rollerblading athletes with video game contests, autograph signings and breakdancing.
The California State Fair Horse Show and Rodeo Arena will also return, with a kid’s only Rodeo School and a Rodeo Hero Recognition Program. The program is designed to honor people that have supported the California Rodeo Industry beyond private interests.
The fair runs from Friday August 20 to Monday, September 6, and is located at Exposition Boulevard in Sacramento. For more information on tickets, including many discount packages and deals, visit the fair’s Web site at www.bigfun.com.
