A national blood marrow registry organization is coming to South Valley Community Church this Saturday, seeking healthy people to sign up to donate marrow to a person in need.

Be the Match will be at SVCC, 8095 Kelton Drive, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 29, along with the American Red Cross from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., who will be hosting a typical blood drive.

Show up between those hours and donate blood to the American Red Cross, or give a swab of your cheek’s DNA to sign up for the Be the Match program.

To join Be the Match, you must be between the ages of 18 and 60 and be willing to donate to any patient in need, if a match is found. Only a cheek swab and two personal references are required at the first step.

Michelle Travlos, the Gilroy resident hosting the event, is in need of a marrow transplant herself.

“It’s not just about me though, there are so many others who need matches,” Travlos said. “If it’s God’s will, I’ll find a match.”
