The Blue Devils clinched second place in the Boys’ 6-7 Grade
youth basketball action Saturday with a 34-32 overtime victory over
previously unbeaten Orange Crush at Bob Hagen Memorial
Gymnasium.
GILROY – The Blue Devils clinched second place in the Boys’ 6-7 Grade youth basketball action Saturday with a 34-32 overtime victory over previously unbeaten Orange Crush at Bob Hagen Memorial Gymnasium.
Mario Cid made two baskets in the extra session as the Blue Devils completed the Gilroy Community Services Department program with a 6-2 record. Greg Hamik drained a three-point field goal in the fourth period as the Devils pulled even with an 11-7 surge. Nathan Kassel and Max Fisher each netted six Devil points.
Richard Reyes provided 10 points and Lukas Fortino bagged a 3-pointer on the way to eight points for the 7-1 Crush.
Jose Almeda struck for 11 points as the Runnin’ Rebels upset the Suns 29-28. Joaquin Silva poured in 19 points for the Suns.
Jonathan Lam hit two free throws in overtime to help the Knicks top the Clippers 20-17. Justin Botill scored seven Knicks points, Brnadon Elam nine for the Clippers.
Boys’ 5 Grade:
The Lakers edged the Magic 19-16 Saturday to leave both teams at 7-1 atop the league.
Chris Catanzaro meshed eight points and Sean Monroe scored all three Laker baskets in the second period as the Lakers finished the season with a five-game winning streak. A.J. Been used a 3-pointer into seven points for the Magic. Jorge Sanchez followed with five points.
Chris Drysdale made 13 points and Matt Jackson added 11 as the Warriors concluded play with a 28-17 decision over the Spurs.
Cameron Yawary made six points to key a 16-14 Blazers victory over the Spurs. Jordan Besson added three steals and two rebounds for the winners, Allen Silhanek five points, three boards and three steals. Jordan Suniga delivered seven points for the Spurs.
Girls’ 5 Grade:
Chelsea Hill popped in 14 points to lead the 8-0 Sparks past the Magic 26-6 Saturday at Solorsano Gymnasium.
Cassidy Daley provided eight points and Allesandra Filice flipped in a key basket in the second period for the winners. Ashley Lambert scored six points for the Magic.
Demornay Granado scored seven points to lead the Monarchs past the Jazz 13-6. Randi Groppe, Amanda Valdez and Tiffany Prado anchored the strong Monarch defense. Dani Hemeon scored four points for the Jazz.
Emily Costa hit for four points and Leah Ailes made three in an 11-9 Blazers triumph over the Sonix. The Blazers completed the season with three straight wins. Sarah Lira made four points for the Sonix.
Boys’ 3-4 Grade:
The Cavaliers went 8-0 by defeating the Raptors 15-10 Saturday at Solorsano Gym.
Greg Spellma and A.J. Zekanoski each scored four Cav points. Bryant Park canned a 3-pointer for the Raptors.
Dylan McManus and Brian Taparo each scored six points to spark the Warriors to a 21-19 win over the Kings. Ryan Ramirez made a 3-pointer for the Warriors, Lucas Vaughn one for the Kings.
Bryant Cid poured in 15 points and Ryan Alba added 14 as the Cougars completed a successful 7-1 campaign with a 36-17 nod over the Gladiators. Noah Troy and Jason Struzik each sank one 3-pointer for the improving Gladiators.
Peter Hilkene scored eight points as the Celtics outlasted the Sonics 24-11. Tanner Holland scored six Sonics points.
Girls’ 3-4 Grade:
Kaylana Mah popped in 10 points Saturday as the 7-1 Hotshots defeated the Rockets 28-10 at Solorsano Gym. Amber Gamboa provided strong defense and one basket for the Hotshots. Ebony Stevens and Lindsey Saccone each made two field goals, Hanna Tabron one for the hustling Rockets.
The Broncos edged the Lady Monarchs 23-22 to finish tied with the Hotshots at 7-1. Sara Sauceda made 11 points, Ashley Bryant eight for the winners. Sarina Sandoval provided 11 rebounds. Ashley Williams exploded for 18 points for the Lady Monarchs.
Girls’ 8-10 Grade:
The Monarchs completed the season at 7-1 with a 33-19 playoff nod over the Sparks at Gilroy High School.
Deborah Senior made 16 points, Cristal Bonowski eight for the Monarchs. Jenny Ailes worked inside for 10 points, Amanda Spellman four for the Sparks.
The Queens of the Court finished at 4-4 with an 18-14 triumph over the Celtics. Brianna Mah and Amber Etienne each finished with four points,, Lauren Etienne, Elizabeth Komar and Shelisa Collins three apiece.
Tiani Louis managed eight points for the Celtics.
Boys’ 8-10 Grade:
The Rockets went to 7-1 Saturday with a 44-31 decision over the Eastside Ballerz in playoff action at Gilroy High School.
Frank Tomasetti made 12 points, Brnadon Harrell eight for the Rockets. Joe Rojas countered with 16 points for the Eastsiders.
The Sonics powered past the Huskers 54-41 behind 19 points from Jacob Dexter and 10 fourth-period points from Mathew Kassel. Phil Terry poured in 15 points for the 4-4 Huskers.
The Ballers trimmed the 76ers 42-34 behind 18 points from John Funkhouser.
