YOUTH BASKETBALL
The Blue Jaws edged past the Red Blazers 24-22 in overtime in a Boys’ 4th Grade Youth Basketball Program game Saturday at Solorsano Gymnasium.
Lawrence Acosta sparked the Jaws offense with 12 points. Jonathan Olvera struck for eight points, Noah Vasquez and Michael Montez two apiece for the winners. Justin Short and Dominic Bettancourt keyed the Jaws defensive effort. Rigo Vasquez provided 14 points, Justin Soseman four points for the Blazers. Joel Gonzalez helped the Blazers with two points and five rebounds.
Purple Rain outlasted the Celtics 24-14 despite six points from Matt Jensema of the Celtics. Lucas Miller assisted with two Celtic baskets.
The Flames of Fury snuck by the Hurricanes 13-12 in Girls’ 5-7 action.
Brianna Perez popped in 10 points, Shannon McAvoy added two points and Mariesa Mazzone one for the winners. Alyssa Sandoval countered with six points, Ashley Irby four for the Hurricanes.
The Hurricanes managed a split of Saturday’s play with an 18-6 nod over the Purple Lady Lakers. Daniella Sandoval exploded for six points, Katie Gurries and Ally Foster four apiece for the Canes.
Andrei Arroyo scored 14 points as the Gold Lakers defeated Red Chaos 18-9 in Boys’ 5-6 competition.
Bryon Velazquez and Marc-Anthony Torres came up with two points apiece for the winners. Eddie Tinoco pulled down seven Laker rebounds. Chris McCann hit one three-pointer on the way to five Chaos points, while Armando Gutierrez followed with four.
Nicolas Colmer tallied 12 points as the Gators squeezed by the Mustangs 26-25. Zachary Fisher and Trevor Hadnot each hit for six Gator points.
The green Warriors topped the Kings 28-15. Noah Zertuche scored five points, Daniel Ordaz and Evan Goldsmith four each for the Kings.
The Gamecocks earned a 28-22 win over the Warriors in Boys’ 5-7 play. Brandon Irby struck for 14 points, Tevin Voorhees six for the winners. The Orange Crush added a 26-20 nod over the Warriors, led by 10 points from Hector Gonzalez. Anthony Litrell-Garcia came up with seven points, eight boards and three Crush steals. Alex Rojas was busy with 17 rebounds and six points for the winners.
Christa Arroyo rushed to four points as the Lakers trimmed the Super Stars 14-12 in Co-Rec 3-Girls’ 4 play. Anna Gamboa hustled to six points for the Stars. The Lakers trailed 8-6 at the break.
Andrew Nguyen popped in 10 points to help the Warriors past the Sharks 16-12.
ADULT BASKETBALL
Valerie Smith Intero moved within one game of the Men’s Basketball League title with a 51-44 victory over Morgan Hill Garage Wednesday at Solorsano Gymnasium.
Kevin Steele worked inside for 17 points as Valerie Smith Intero improved to 4-0 and a two-game lead over three clubs with two games left in the regular season. Intero, the first-half champion, will add the second-half pennant with one more victory.
Mark Cisneros and Dennis Fauss helped the Valerie Smith Intero cause with eight points each. Jacob Garcia exploded with 14 points and Sig Reynisson raced to 11 for Morgan Hill Garage.
Beale Properties outlasted GC Farms 48-39 to leave both teams at 2-2.
Robert Rodriguez provided a spark for Beale with a 17-point outburst. Israel Gonzalez drained a pair of three-point field goals on the way to 13 Beale Properties points. Cliff Dennett paced GC Farms with 13 points. Chris Locsin hit two 3-pointers and came up with 10 points.
Phi Slamma Jamma is also 2-2 after a 57-53 decision over Bethany Community Church.
Ed Galisanao hit three 3’s and led the Jamma offense with 15 points. Anthony Johnson popped in 14 points, Todd Barreras 10 for the winners. Dominik Wilkins led Bethany with 16 points, James Suber 10.
The Garlic Girls surprised Gaeta’s Ballers 31-27 to stay alive in pennant contention in the Women’s Basketball League Monday at Solorsano Gym.
Lena Tabron carried the Garlic Girls offense with 21. Gretchen Strock and Wendy Filice each mustered four points as the Garlic Girls climbed to 2-2.
Laura Hennessee hit a pair of 3-pointers in a 15-point showing for 3-1 Gaeta’s.
Western Tree Nursery, the first-half champion, is 2-2 after a 38-32 victory over Williams Dental Lab.
Melanie Corona poured in 16 points, including 15 by halftime, to lead the Nursery attack. Michelle Deleissegues converted 11 points, Marisa Taylan 11 for the winners. Shante Mancera hit three 3-pointers in the second half for Williams Dental Lab.
