Robert "The Ghost" Guerrero, second from left, poses for a picture during the Ringside World Championships July 28-Aug. 2 in Independence, MO.

INDEPENDENCE, MISSOURI—Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero didn’t just soak up the action at 2014 Ringside World Championships, but used the opportunity to connect with fans and give back.
Guerrero signed autographs for fans Wednesday and Thursday at the tournament and will donate some of that money to his charity of choice Be The Match. Be The Match helps connect patients with bone marrow donors through its internal network. Fans also got the chance to take photos with the four division and six-time world champion boxer.
“It’s important to give back to the fans because they are the ones that pay to see us fight,” Guerrero said in a press release. “It was very rewarding to see the kids smiling and the conversations I had with a lot of the coaches were awesome. Everyone was showing love and their support was incredible. I’ve been with Ringside for the last few years and I’m happy to be part of their family. I’m looking forward to coming out here again next year.”
Ringside representative Albert Guardado said Guerrero was a big highlight to the week’s events and that the tournament hopes he’ll return next year.
“Robert is a class act and he never turned down an autograph from anyone who asked him,” Guardado said. “We had him signing for two days and even after the line was cut off he continued to sign and take photos with the fans. … We need more fighters like Robert, who are willing to give back to the fans, to keep this sport thriving.”
The Ringside World Championships is the largest amateur boxing tournament in the world and features 1,500 athletes competing in 1,000 bouts over seven sessions in six rings. It kicked off July 28 and runs through Aug. 2.
