• The First Tee of Silicon Valley’s fall junior golf life skills program at Gavilan Golf Course kicks off Sept.14. Classes will be held after school on Fridays from 4 to 5:30 p.m. for second graders and above.
Past participants in the Player level who have been certified can take the on-course program where new students can sign-up for the Core program. • World Cup winner and gold medal soccer player Brandi Chastain will throw out the ceremonial first pitch at the San Jose Giants game on Aug. 31. The Giants play the Modesto Nuts. Her pitch will be at 6:45 p.m., while game time is slated for 7 at Municipal Stadium in San Jose.
• Sign up for the Run for the Stinkin’ Roses Cougar Classic 5K and 10K run that will take place Sept. 30 at Solorsano Middle School. All proceeds benefit the Christopher High School cross country team. Pre-register by Sept. 15 and the cost is $25 or $20 for runners under 18 or over 60. Register after Sept. 15 the cost is $30. The races begins at 8 a.m. For more information email [email protected].
• Former professional basketball player and current head coach of the Monte Vista Christian boys basketball team Dan Mooney is hosting a three-day basketball clinic Sept. 1-3 at Oakwood School in Morgan Hill. The Back to Basics clinic is celebrating its 30th year. Limited spots are open for boys and girls from the first grade through high school. The schedule is set as 8 to 11 a.m. for elementary-aged kids, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for middle school and 2 to 5 p.m. for high school.
