Day Break Caregiver SupportGroup
“Day Break Caregiver Support Group, a program of Catholic Charities, meets every third Friday of the month. Meetings are held in the Activity Room of Wheeler Manor, 651 W. 6th. Sreet in Gilroy, from 2 to 3:30pm.
The goal is to assist in the well-being of those providing 24-hour care to a loved one suffering from Alzheimer’s Disease or some other form of dementia.
The topic will be “Updates on Alzheimer’s Research”, presented by John Timbs LMFT, of the Alzheimer’s Association.

‘Lil Dragon Self Defense Classes
ASDA (American Self-Defense Academy), located at 7822 Monterey St., is holding classes for children, ages 3 through 8, in their ‘Lil Dragon Program. Focusing on self-esteem, self-control, respect, and safety and life skills.

Gavilan Joggers and Striders Running Club
Meets at 8:15am every Saturday at Christmas Hill Park, near the entrance. Jog two to three miles including short track workout. Beginner joggers and those who would like to compete in running events are welcome.

Health Ministries Biking Group
The Health Ministries Program of Gilroy Presbyterian Church is sponsoring a Biking Group every Saturday, at 8:30am, leaving from the parking lot by First Street Coffee House, located at the corner of First Street and Westwood Drive.
Men and women of all skill levels are welcome. Shorter, recreationally paced short loop rides will be followed by longer, more challenging loops.

Chevys fundraiser for Ascencion Solorsano
A fundraiser will be held Sunday, Jan. 23 at Chevys Fresh Mex Restaurant, 8440 Murray Ave., to benefit Ascencion Solorsano Middle School’s Parent Club. Chevys Gilroy will donate 20 percent of its earnings that day to the parent club. The restaurant is open from 11am to 10pm and offers a variety of Mexican cuisine.
Griefshare recovery support group
Griefshare, a grief recovery support group, holds weekly support group meetings at First Baptist Church, 8455 Wren Ave., from 7 to 9pm in the Choir room.
Those grieving the loss of someone close can find comfort and encouragement from others who understand what they are experiencing and want to help through their difficult time. Each session includes a video seminar featuring top experts on grief and recovery subjects, as well as real-life people who share their experiences. After the video, participants review and share their thoughts about the subject and offer their experiences with each other.
