Several local wineries received awards during the 71st annual L.A. International Wine & Spirits Competition held May 19 to 21 in Fairplex. More than 3,200 wine entries from around the world were judged by 75 of the leading international wine experts.
Creekview Vineyards in San Martin received a silver medal for the 2007 Syrah, a silver for the 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon and a silver for the 2007 Merlot. Fortino Winery in Gilroy received a gold medal for Cabernet Sauvignon and a silver for the 2007 Charbono. Guglielmo Winery in Morgan Hill received a gold medal for 2007 Zinfandel, a silver for the 2007 Sangiovese, a bronze for the 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon and a bronze for the 2007 Barbera. Jason-Stephens Winery in Gilroy received a silver medal for the 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon and a silver for the 2008 Chardonnay. Solis Winery in Gilroy received a silver medal for the 2008 Chardonnay, a silver for the 2007 Super Tuscan Blends and a bronze medal for Port. Pinnacle Bank announced that the Board of Directors has appointed Gilroy resident Jeffrey D. Payne chief banking officer and executive officer. Payne began his career with County Bank and Trust, where he advanced to senior vice president during his ten year tenure. Prior to joining Pinnacle Bank, Payne served as executive vice president and national SBA manager at Comerica Bank.
