Kristen Campos wasn’t on a state championship team at Gilroy High School but she was on one during her first year at Santa Barbara City College.

Campos, GHS class of 2006 and a freshman at SBCC, was a member of the Vaqueros team that won its first women’s golf state championship.

“I didn’t play that well, but we had the top two individuals,” said Campos, who finished 22nd with an 89-87-176.

Freshman Natalie Todd shot a two-day score of 1-over-par 145 at Belmont Country Club in Fresno to take individual honors by one stroke over sophomore Victoria Alimonda. SBCC, which posted a perfect 45-0 and swept the Western State Conference, shot 622 as a team to beet runner-up College of the Canyons by 60 strokes.
