Aspiring film, television, journalism and social media college students have the chance to earn cash for playing a role in changing the way people view mental health.
The Generation Next competition includes $4,000 in cash prizes for the top three winners in each of three categories: film and television, journalism and social media.
Competition participants will use the power and influence of media to promote accurate and authentic portrayals of mental health issues.
Winners will have their productions aired on EICnetwork.tv, a global Internet television network, and have the opportunity to take part in a collaborative program with Active Minds, a mental health organization led by college students. The winning college students will also receive recognition at the 2014 PRISM Awards Ceremony.
“This competition recognizes that today’s generation of students are tomorrow’s industry leaders,” said Marie Gallo Dyak, Entertainment Industries Council Inc.’s Executive Vice President of Program Services and Government Relations. “These innovative journalists and artists have the tools to change the way we view mental health.”
The competition is led by the EIC Inc. and is supported by the California Mental Health Services Authority, an organization of county governments working to improve mental health among Californians.
Prior to the selection of three finalists, 12 semi-finalists will be mentored by entertainment, journalism, and social media professionals, as well as mental health experts.
Generation Next competition is accepting submissions through Feb. 14.
