Tierra will be bringing its latin-style R&B music to Hollister on Saturday as part of a 22-city tour this spring and summer.

The group will perform at the Veterans Memorial Building on 649 San Benito Street as part of San Benito County’s Mexican-American Committee on Education’s 35th Anniversary Celebration Scholarship Banquet.

“The event is completely sold out, said Mickie Luna, the treasurer for MACE. “We are really excited because they’ve never played in Hollister before. We are very fortunate to be able to contract them. Hopefully, it won’t be the only time.”

Trio Intimo will be playing during dinner, which will be served at 6pm, and Pueblo will be opening for Tierra, which begins performing at 9pm. Ernesto Nava Villa, the son of Mexican military leader Francisco “Pancho” Villa, will also be honored during the evening for his family’s accomplishments.

Money raised from the banquet will go to help with local scholarships.

Tierra will be celebrating the release of their new CD “Welcome to Café East L.A.,” which was released April 26. The CD features horn arrangements, singing by Billy Mondragon and guitar by longtime band leader Rudy Salas.

The nine-member band is best known for its hit “Together.” Tierra was the first Latino band to have four songs on the national chart and two songs simultaneously in the Top 100.
