Hayward last weekend.
HAYWARD – The Gilroy Chaos 10U Blue girls softball team went undefeated (3-0-1) in its first fall tournament for the 2009-10 season held in Hayward last weekend.
The Chaos’ first game Saturday was against the Gilroy Glory, lasting just three innings in a 13-1 win. Maria Sandoval pitched a no-hitter and had nine strikeouts. Anna Gamboa led the Chaos with two singles and one triple. Cynthia Del Real went 2-for-2.
Game 2 against the San Jose Tabu ended in a 1-1 tie. The game featured a pitching duel between Chaos’ Anna Gamboa and Tabu’s Ariel Alvarez.
Both Gamboa and Alvarez had eight strikeouts while yielding a combined three hits.
Gamboa was back in the circle for Game 3 to face the Union City Insanity, pitching a one-hitter in a game that went four innings.
Sunday’s semifinal paired the Chaos and Insanity in a rematch, with an identical result – a Chaos triumph. Gamboa pitched a two-hit shutout with seven strikeouts.
The Chaos took on Tabu in the championship game, which ran past its allotted 90 minutes.
In the top of the sixth, the international tiebreaker rule was put into effect. Each team started the inning with a runner at second base.
The Chaos held Tabu scoreless and capitalized on a no-out bases-loaded situation. Sandoval lined a single to right field scoring Michaela Decker for the winning run.
