Gilroy police are investigating a burglary that took place during a Sept. 7 football game between Christopher and Live Oak high schools.

The game was held at Gilroy High School, since the relatively new CHS campus was the home team and does not have a football field yet.

During home games at GHS, CHS football players use a portable building as their locker room. The portable is located across from the GHS gym, about 200 yards from the football field. According to GHS Principal Marco Sanchez, players cracked a sliding window in the portable to get some fresh air – a “good intention” with a frustrating consequence, Sanchez noted. The CHS athletes forgot to close the window before exiting.

An unknown suspect then entered the portable through the cracked window and made off with a significant number of personal items, including wallets, iPhones and iPads. Sanchez said the crime had to have happened sometime after 7:30 p.m.

“It was very unfortunate,” said Sanchez. “We are cooperating with CHS to try and identify who the person, or persons were. We have been over the surveillance cameras, but it’s so dark we weren’t able to identify anybody.”

Sanchez has not been informed of any leads in the case.

The Dispatch is waiting to hear from Gilroy PD for possible updates on the incident.
