Needy families will receive a visit from Santa this weekend
Gilroy – Santa will come a-knocking this weekend, toting gifts for good boys and girls.
South County Housing and City of Dreams have teamed up and are delivering gifts and Christmas trees to 50 needy families from Gilroy and Morgan Hill.
Santa will arrive at families’ front doors Saturday, bringing two or three gifts for the children, a present for each parent, a Christmas tree, Christmas lights and ornaments.
Volunteers will spend Friday afternoon wrapping the 300 donated gifts and will return to the office Saturday at 12pm to begin delivering the holiday goodies.
They already have ample volunteers but Mike Gallagher said volunteers are welcome to show up at his Morgan Hill office at 18525 Sutter Blvd. Suit 260, to help wrap Friday.
Gallagher, a City of Dreams volunteer, helped bring the gift-giving program to South County.
This year the San Francisco-based City of Dreams non-profit mentoring program for disadvantaged children, worked closely with SCH to find needy families in the Gilroy and Morgan Hill areas.
“They were really instrumental in determining who we should focus on,” said Gallagher.
Even parents aren’t going to be left out of this gift giveaway. Gallagher’s wife is throwing a party tonight and assembling gift baskets for the mothers. Dads will receive a Safeway or Nob Hill gift card.
The trees and gifts will be delivered to families in five South County Housing apartment complexes, three of them in Morgan Hill, two in Gilroy and to several families in the Rogers Lane neighborhood in Gilroy.
