All three Gilroy Little League girls softball teams advanced to the state championships after winning the Section 5 championships. The Gilroy 9- and 10-year-old Minors All-Star team won the title for the fifth straight time, while the 11-year-old team won for the first time.

Girls Major All-Stars

The Gilroy 11- and 12-year-old Major All-Star team defeated the NBA All-Stars 10-3 on Tuesday. Gilroy opened up the game in the bottom of the fourth inning with two outs and the bases loaded. Sarah Ordaz had a clutch single, bringing in two runs to make it a 3-2 game. But it didn’t stop there. Gilroy had nine consecutive hits and brought in nine runs that inning. Casey Lester closed out the game on the mound, pitching six complete innings, allowing only two hits while striking out five batters. Celeste M. Jimenez went 2-2 with two RBI, and Kaylana Mah went 2-4 with two RBI.

The Gilroy Majors will be playing at 11am Saturday in the State tournament in Concord.

9-10 All-Stars

The Gilroy 9- and 10-year-olds defeated Evergreen 11-1 Saturday at Flickinger Park-North Valley Little League after the game was shortened after four innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.

Holly Lam pitched all four innings. She had 11 strikeouts, gave up two hits and allowed five base runners.

Brittney Souza had three hits and scored three times. Nicole Green had two hits and also scored. Brianna Barron had two hits and scored. Abbey Kienle had two hits and scored.

On Sunday, Gilroy again defeated Evergreen by 10-run rule, 10-0.

Samantha De la Torre pitched all four innings. She struck out seven, gave up two hits and allowed seven base runners.

Mackenzie Holt and Green walked twice and scored twice. Brianna Barron had two hits and scored twice. Abbey Kienle had two hits.

The next game for Gilroy will be at 11am on July 21 in Martinez.
