trashy tracks: According to this caller, commuters are chatting
about the trash along the railroad tracks.
”
I’ve been commuting on the train from Gilroy to San Jose for
many years. Most of the other train commuters and myself are pretty
disgusted
… the minute we pass Leavesly and all the way past Gilroy down
to 10th Street, there’s so much trash you wouldn’t believe it.
Mattresses, TVs, everything under the sun.
Trashy tracks: According to this caller, commuters are chatting about the trash along the railroad tracks.
“I’ve been commuting on the train from Gilroy to San Jose for many years. Most of the other train commuters and myself are pretty disgusted … the minute we pass Leavesly and all the way past Gilroy down to 10th Street, there’s so much trash you wouldn’t believe it. Mattresses, TVs, everything under the sun. It’s filthy, it’s a really bad example for Gilroy and we see it everyday. I’d just like to report it.”
We agree it’s a bad example for our city.
The Red Phone got hold of John Bromley, director of public affairs for Union Pacific and let him know of the trashy situation. He said, “Our maintenance people are aware of that issue and they have crews working now in the Watsonville area and they’re headed in that direction (towards Gilroy). So it is scheduled for clean up. I don’t have an exact date … it just depends on how soon they get done in Watsonville. They are on their way and they will address that problem.”
So rest assured caller, the Red Phone is on top of the situation and it sounds like Union Pacific will soon be too.
red light, green light: Maybe cell phones are the reason for the recent surge in poor driving.
“I’m just calling in regards to the new intersection at the Target and Costco shopping centers. When you’re leaving the Costco area making a right turn at the light, there’s a red arrow for the right turn. And there’s a sign that says stop on red and I think people need to be reminded that they need to wait for the green arrow. It’s not just stop and proceed when it’s clear.
I’ve had many people honk at me when I’m waiting, or even pull around me in the same turn lane and go ahead. Thank you.”
Have a little patience out there drivers. Life is stressful enough without someone behind you honking, when all you’re trying to do is obey the law. So try to pay attention to the signs, and – a little reminder – you can simply yield and go on some red lights, but a red arrow means stop and wait for green.
B&N bookworm?: Maybe Punxsutawney Phil has competition …
“It just occurred to me that perhaps this burst pipe at Barnes and Noble, there’s something more to it than what we thought. I think the pipe burst, a bookworm came up, saw his shadow, so there’s six more weeks of closure. Hmmm, think about it.”
Thanks for the quirky comment, caller. Maybe its the Gilroy grubworm who saw his shadow …
a burning issue: The Red Phone also wants to know what they were thinking …
“I wanted to call and complain about, well I was driving home from work the other day, and this has happened before that I’ve seen. The car in front of me flicked a burning cigarette out the window. What were they thinking? It was obviously still burning because little orange ashes went flying all over the place and I just don’t understand what people are thinking doing that.
Can people not see how dry everything is around here? All it takes is one tiny little spark to get a fire going. I wish people would stop and think about what they’re doing before they do it. Thanks.”
Tossing a cigarette out the car window is not a smart thing to do. Use your brains … and your ashtrays.
attention farmer fans: As you probably noticed, Debbie Farmer ran on Friday last week. Note that is now her regularly scheduled day.
Your beloved Red Phone will run Wednesdays and Saturdays. Thanks for your patience as we work through the kinks of our transition.
