Dear Editor,

I would like to congratulate the Gilroy Girl’s All-Star Little League team for their performance this year which took them to the World Series.

I would also like to thank the long list of people and organizations that help me put together a parade honoring them in just three days.

First, thanks to Steve Ashford and Dave who put up the stage at the end of the parade. I wish to thank the owner of Gilroy Tile and Stone for the use of their parking lot Saturday morning as a meeting place at the end of the parade.

Thanks also to Cpt. Debbie Moore, Sgt. Stanford, Community Service Officers Gary Muraoka and Robert Basuino who volunteered to come in on his day off to help with traffic control during the parade.

Thanks also to Gilroy auto dealers, South County Chrysler Plymouth, for providing four cars and Al Sanchez VW Madza for providing two cars for the team members to ride in.

Thanks also to Gilroy Screen Printing for making the 16 car signs with the team member’s names. I know John, Gloria, Zak and the whole group worked real hard on Thursday and Friday putting them together.

I also had the opportunity to talk to people in the community who wanted to help cover some of the cost associated with being on the road for almost three weeks. In talking with many family members, they racked upwards of $2,000 per family in hotel room bills alone. I received $7,400 from 14 different people and organizations. Filice Estate Vineyards, Ernie and Ann Filice, The Old Orchard Company and Tanglewood Construction each donated $1,000. Don and Karen Christopher, South Valley Disposal, Keith Higgins and Assoc., and The James Group each contributed $500. Container Consulting Services donated $300 and HMH Engineering, RJA Assoc., Habing Family Funeral Home and South Valley National Bank contributed $250 each. Rosso’s Furniture donated $100. What a great gift from our community to the families of our Gilroy All-Stars.

A final thank you to all the people who came out on Saturday morning to cheer on the team as they road in the parade and help them celebrate their return home after such a long and exhausting road trip.

Craig Gartman, Gilroy
