THIS WEEK’S WEB POLL:

If the action is necessary to hire more police officers, should the city of Gilroy lay off more employees in other departments?

Yes: 3 No: 8

â–  If they need to hire more police officers they should, but not at the expense of other needed employees. Maybe they should not let the firefighters and police officers have so much overtime and suck up the budget.

â–  No. Not automatically; layoffs need to be considered more thoughtfully across all community services.

â–  NO! There’s already nearly 50 employees on the chopping block.

â–  YES because the safety and security of the community is top priority.

â–  No. Somehow this situation needs to be addressed differently. And, is the need for more police officers due to growth, or is it due to our city becoming more crime filled?
