Corrine R. Tapia died Saturday, May 01, 2004 in Gilroy. She was 81.
Born July 25, 1922 in Soledad, the daughter of Robert and Lena (Castro) Avila, she served in the U.S. Army during World War II attaining the rank of PFC.
Mrs. Tapia enjoyed playing bingo when she wasn’t working at the Gilroy Cannery and Gilroy Foods. She lived in Gilroy for most of her life.
She is survived by her children, Ernie and his wife Sandy Stanford, Linda and her husband Larry Melton and Roberta Stanford, all of Gilroy.
Mrs. Tapia is the grandmother of Sharon and her husband Garry Caspary of Gilroy, Pamela Melton of San Diego, Jason Melton of Vancouver, Wash., Jim Denniston of Gilroy, and Christiana Hardin of Olympia, Wash. She also is survived by nine great-grandchildren, her nephew Robert Huber of Las Vegas, Nev., and godchild Josephine Campos of King City.
She was preceded in death by her husbands Fred Tapia and Ed Stanford.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Wednesday, May 5, 2004, at St. Mary’s Church.
Inurnment will follow at the Gavilan Hills Memorial Park, Gilroy.
Services under the direction of Habing Family Funeral Home. Donations made to the Live Oak Adult Daycare, Gilroy, in her memory are preferred and appreciated.
