GILROY – On a 6 to 1 vote, City Council approved Monday a set of documents to guide its policy and budgetary decisions for the next two decades.
Council adopted 10 so-called “master plans” for city services such as police protection, libraries and water delivery. The plans detail how the city will meet the demands of its residents as Gilroy grows over the years.
Councilman Craig Gartman was the lone dissenter. Gartman wanted to delay approval of the master plans until the city finished a study on how much it can charge developers of new housing projects.
Most of what is outlined in the master plans relies on developers fees for funding.
“It’s like we’re balancing our checkbook without a statement,” Gartman said.
The fire department’s master plan was not among the 10 documents Council approved. The department is expected to have a master plan draft by the end of the month. Council will review the document in June.
