Dear Editor,
Thank you for your mention of OpenGATE in your

Cheers and Jeers

on Saturday. While I am grateful for the recognition, I want to
take the opportunity to pass that recognition on to the people who
really deserve it. So here are a few cheers of my own:
Cheers to the Rucker GATE program. They are on the front line of
GATE instruction in GUSD, and they are doing a terrific job, and
have been for many years.
Dear Editor,

Thank you for your mention of OpenGATE in your “Cheers and Jeers” on Saturday. While I am grateful for the recognition, I want to take the opportunity to pass that recognition on to the people who really deserve it. So here are a few cheers of my own:

Cheers to the Rucker GATE program. They are on the front line of GATE instruction in GUSD, and they are doing a terrific job, and have been for many years.

Cheers to those teachers with GATE students outside Rucker. Having only one or two GATE students in a classroom presents significant challenges to the teacher. Thank you for integrating GATE instruction into their class day.

Cheers to Marcia Brown, GUSD Director of Student Services, who has put a great effort into reaching out to parents, and who has made herself available to OpenGATE on a regular basis.

Cheers to the many parents over the years who have supported and enriched the GATE programs through their volunteer efforts.

Cheers to my “partners in crime,” the parents and educators of OpenGATE. OpenGATE is not my group, and it wasn’t even my idea. I wrote the Web site, and set up the Yahoo! email group, but OpenGATE is much more than that. It is a cooperative effort by parents and educators. There are other people in OpenGATE who are doing much more than I am on a day-to-day basis. Great job, everybody!
