Dear Editor,
In Ben Anderson’s letter to the editor in Tuesday’s Dispatch, he chastises Roland Velasco and the other City Councilman for their decision to allow denial of housing to convicted sex offenders. He makes comparison’s of discrimination against sex offender’s to that of Mexicans, Catholics and others. He goes even further down the yellow brick road claiming Councilman Charles Morales should somehow be even more sympathetic to sex offender’s because of his heritage? Huh?
I fully support the Council’s decision. While sex offenders have a recidivism that is arguably lower than general offenders, 15 to 25 percent depending on which study you read, it is still too high to risk the safety of our families. I have absolutely no compassion for sex offenders, particularly child molesters who have a higher rate of repeat offenses. Train your family members to fight back. Martial arts and other types of self-defense training should be first on your list.
Since many abductions occur inside the home, firearms training is also an option for those old enough to handle a firearm responsibly. Visit Armed Citizen: http://www.nrapublications.org/armed%20citizen/index.asp to read about people who have defended themselves from intruders in their homes. Also, know your enemy. Check the Meagan’s Law Directory Website at: http://www.meganslaw.ca.gov/ to find where the pervs live. I promise you it will chill you to see how many offenders there are amongst us.
It never ceases to amaze me that someone would wave the Constitution in defense of the indefensible. The so-called paid debt to society is insufficient to deter repeat offenders or compensate a victim whose life has been destroyed by these predators.
I have a sex offender living around the corner from me. He was arrested for attempting to meet up with a young teen girl from Santa Cruz County. Fortunately, her alert mother intercepted a chat message from this good neighbor of mine and alerted police. I see him every day as he is out on bail pending trial. Little girls unknowingly ride their bikes by this perverts house every day.
I would rather be safe than sorry in this area. I believe that a first offense of the sexual kind should result in a sentence so long that even Viagra wouldn’t help and even then, a scarlet letter in the center of their forehead might just do the trick.
