Lady Mustang golf team takes second place on Diablo Course at
Ridgemark GC
HOLLISTER – The Gilroy High girls golf team danced with the devil on Thursday as the Lady Mustangs hit the links on the Diablo Course at Ridgemark Golf Club in Hollister for the second league tournament.
When the nine holes were completed, the Lady Mustangs were second with a 210 team score behind only host Holllster with a 208 team tally. Salinas finished third with a 213 ahead of fourth-place Live Oak (222) and fifth-place Alvarez (254).
“Diablo, the Devil, caught up to Gilroy,” head coach Eric Kuwada said. “We had some problems on the golf course – golfers got lost (and) the course was in poor shape due to maintenance work. However, we played better as a team score, amazingly, (than we did at Gilroy GC). I believe the home team had an advantage today.”
Junior Carissa Filice shot a team-low 47 with sophomore standout Kristen Campos finishing with a 51. Senior Andrea Hugo scored a 52 and junior Amy Kishimura registered the fourth lowest team score with a 60. In addition, senior Brittney Weber tallied a 61, while senior Heather Peterson with DQ’d.
“Carissa played well today,” Kuwada said. “The girls are getting excited about their games. Andrea played better and felt good about her game. She played much better than yesterday at GIlroy. Carissa continues to play steady and improve. Kristen broke her drive yesterday and she struggled in the tight house-lined fairways of Ridgemark. They are looking forward to playing at CordeValle next week.”
The Lady Mustangs will get a chance to play at the exclusive CordeValle Golf Club on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
