Rosso increases lead
Gilroy – Jaime Rosso pulled further ahead of John Gurich in the ongoing race for the third school board seat after the latest vote tally update Tuesday.
Rosso, current president of the Gilroy Unified School District Board of Trustees, is now 92 votes in front of incumbent Gurich, with 5,447 (16.13 percent) out of 33,774 votes. He increased his lead from early last week by another 25 votes. The Santa Clara County Registrar’s office says 99.15 percent of ballots are counted, with another roughly 5,204 ballots remaining.
Retired principal Pat Midtgaard and parent Rhoda Bress already secured the other two seats up for election earlier this month. Another – and, potentially, the last – update is due Friday.
Sheriff’s fundraiser
San Jose – The Sheriff’s Advisory Board is inviting the public to its Third Annual Gala fundraiser tonight at the downtown San Jose Marriott Hotel.
The event is from 6 to 11pm and includes dinner, cocktails, a live auction and entertainment, for a ticket price of $150. Proceeds will go toward building the Sheriff’s Office Situational Training Facility, a state-of-the-art regional storefront training center, which will feature replica life-sized buildings, will be the first of its kind in Northern California.
The Sheriff’s Advisory Board has supported the Sheriff’s office for a number of years. Their sole objective is to provide equipment and support to help deputies remain safe and do a better job serving the community.

Flood summit
San Jose – The Santa Clara Valley Water District hosts its annual summit on flood preparedness today, bringing together emergency and disaster personnel with local officials to coordinate flood-emergency responses during the rainy winter season.
“The thing about South County is that we live in a semi-arid region and for most of the year, there’s very little water in our creeks,” said Water District Spokesman Mike Di Marco. “People forget how quickly a rainstorm can create runoff that overwhelms the creeks.”
A flood on the Llagas Creek, which awaits federal funding for levee protection equal to the Uvas, could, at the very least, create major commute headaches for Gilroy residents.
The meeting will be held from 8am to noon in the Water District board room, 5700 Almaden Expressway, San Jose. To attend, please call (408) 265-2607, ext. 2500.
