Pack-In needs volunteers
Gilroy – A nonprofit group that sends hand-written letters from home and packages of goodies to U.S. troops abroad is encouraging residents to volunteer this week during its Rock ‘N Roll Community Pack-In Night.
Organizers of Operation Interdependence encourage people to come to the Friday night “pack-in” with Christmas cards or notes and snack-size treats such as granola bars, packets of oatmeal, hot chocolate, small packets of peanuts, corn nuts, etc.
Volunteers can look forward to assembling care packages with Christmas carols in the background. The pack-in takes place 7pm -9:30pm Friday at 8075 Camino Arroyo (behind the old Wal-Mart in Gilroy).

Musicians to share talents
Gilroy – South Valley Music Makers will meet at 1pm, Saturday at Gilroy’s Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1735 Hecker Pass Highway.
Music Makers welcomes musicians of all levels of advancement, and all ages at its get-togethers to share their favorite repertoire in sets up to 10 minutes.
Music of all historical periods is welcome. Those who would prefer just to listen are also encouraged to attend.

Have breakfast with Santa
Gilroy – This special morning is for children 3 to 12 years, Saturday at 8:30 and 10:30am at the Gilroy Senior Center. Cost is $14, non resident, $12 for residents.
The cost includes breakfast, crafts and photo for children 3 to 12, breakfast only for children age 13.
Space is limited pre-registration is required, scholarships available.

Sale benefits science trip
Gilroy – A huge sidewalk sale will be held 9am to 1pm, Saturday on the basketball courts at South Valley Middle School.
Funds raised will benefit the seventh grade science trip Yosemite National Park.Please contribute by donating clothing or household items of good quality or shopping at the sale.

Dance the night away
Gilroy – The Gilroy High School Winter Ball is scheduled for Dec. 9. Tickets are now on sale for $15 with an Associated Student Body card, $20 without.
GHS Winter Choir Concert
Gilroy – The GHS Choral Program will present the Winter Choir Concert at 7:30pm Dec. 12 and 13.
Tickets are $5 and available at the door or in advance at the GHS Bookroom and at Porcella’s Music located at 7357 Monterey Street. Proceeds go towards the choirs transportation fund.

Santa visits San Ysidro Park
Gilroy – Santa will be visiting the San Ysidro Park Recreation Room from 2 to 5pm, Dec. 13. All children and families are invited to attend.

SV Ballet presents ‘Nutcracker’
Morgan Hill – The Morgan Hill Dance Center (South Valley Ballet) will be performing the first full-length ballet of the Nutcracker, this side of San Jose. There will be guest appearances from professional dancers from Ballet San Jose.
Performance dates are: 7pm Dec. 15, and two shows Saturday, Dec. 16; 1:30 and 7pm. All shows play at the Ann Sobrato High School Theatre, 401 Burnett Ave. Morgan Hill. Tickets are $20 per seat.
