Workshop for landlords, managers tonight

Gilroy – A free workshop for landlords and property managers to educate rental housing landlords of their responsibility to provide and maintain safe crime free rental units.

It will inform landlords/property managers about consequences of failing to address rental issues and on going problems or concerns; to provide information on how to effectively invest time to manage your properties; opportunity to network with other Gilroy landowners, on site managers, property management, neighborhood leaders, and Gilroy agencies; provide community resources; enhance the quality of life in our neighborhoods by improving our sense of community.

The workshop will be held Tuesday, April 11, from 5:30 to 8:30pm at the Gilroy Senior Center, 7371 Hanna St.

Enjoy craft sharing at the Gilroy Library

Gilroy – Have a craft project gathering dust? Need some extra motivation getting started on a new craft? Two additional dates have been set for the popular Craft Sharing program at the Gilroy Library, 7387 Rosanna St. Drop-in Wednesday, from 6:30 to 9pm.

Bring your craft tools & supplies. Meet other crafty people; swap supplies and expertise. Ages teen through adult only. Gilroy crafter extraordinaire, Cindy Boden, will offer her guidance.

Gilroy – A mobile blood drive will be Thursday, at the First Baptist Church, 8455 Wren Ave. from 1:30 to 6:30pm. Walk-ins are welcome as space is available. To donate blood you must be at least 17 years old, weigh a minimum of 110 pounds and be in good health.

Gilroy Rotary Flower Sale

Gilroy – The flower sale will be held from 8am to 1pm, Saturday. In conjunction with Goldsmith Seeds, this is an annual fundraiser that takes place each spring. For the past 35 years, Goldsmith Seeds holds its annual Spring Trials. During these trials, hundreds of new plants are introduced to the nursery/greenhouse industry and thousands are on display.

This year, Goldsmith Seeds will host Fischer USA, another giant in the horticultural industry, at their annual Spring Trials. Together, Goldsmith and Fischer will have thousands of flower varieties on display – some never before seen by the general public.

Volunteers needed for

Earth Day projects

Gilroy – As part of the California State Parks Foundation’s Earth Day 2006 Restoration and Cleanup, California State Parks is seeking 50 volunteers for trail maintenance at Henry W. Coe State Park’s Coyote Creek area. At 8:30am, Saturday, April 22, volunteers will help with trail maintenance, consisting of tread maintenance, erosion control and brushing.

This project is one of 41 environmental improvement sites funded through the California State Parks Foundation’s Earth Day 2006 program. Last month, $124,000 in grants was awarded to California state and community parks for conservation and rehabilitation efforts.

During the past nine years, the California State Parks Foundation’s Earth Day Restoration and Cleanup program has contributed more than $808,000 for long overdue environmental rehabilitation projects. More than 45,000 volunteers have been mobilized to assist with the massive effort, which is the nation’s only statewide Earth Day program.
