Gilroy Unified on sound financial footing

GILROY – Despite budget cuts that could approach $1 million this year, Gilroy Unified School District got a clean bill of health from its financial auditors last week.

GUSD trustees accepted Thursday the district’s annual financial review from Vavrinek, Trine, Day & Company, San Jose-based accounting firm.

“You’re going into this crisis as healthy as you possibly can,” said accountant Tom Brewer.

Among the strong points within the GUSD’s fiscal situation was a $2.9 million “rainy day” fund that represented 4.4 percent of the district’s general fund expenses, Brewer said.
