On Saturday, March 6, the tour “Old Gilroy I” will cover Alexander and Railroad streets, beginning at the Gilroy Museum, 195 Fifth St., at 10 a.m. Admission is free. GILROY – Gilroy Economic Development Corporation in conjunction with the Silicon Valley Workforce Investment Network, Career Advancement Solutions and Gavilan College Small Business Development Center is holding a series of eight-hour training courses to help others learn the basics of working in retail. The next workshop will be held Friday, March 5, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Gavilan College SBDC offices in the Dry Creek Village Center, 8351 Church St., Building E. An overview of working in a retail environment, principles of customer service, work attitudes and ethics, business communication, dealing with difficult people, handling money, cashiering and scanning practices will be covered. A hypnotizing show
GILROY – Hypnotist Travis Fox will be performing at the Gilroy High School Gym on Friday, March 5, at 7 p.m. and again at 9 p.m. Fox has dazzled crowds in the past during several Gilroy High Grad Night celebrations. Proceeds from this special one-night show will go to benefit GHS Grad Night 2004. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for students, and may be purchased by calling 848-7101 ext. 8638 or at the Gilroy Golf Course Monday through Friday, from 3 to 5 p.m., and Saturdays, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Seating is limited.
Firemen’s Ball
GILROY – The GFD Women’s Auxiliary hosts its Firemen’s Ball on Saturday, March 6, at the Elks Lodge, 2765 Hecker Pass Road, from 6 to 10 p.m. No-host bar, sit-down dinner and DJ dancing will cost $40 per person. Proceeds benefit the Women’s Auxiliary Emergency Relief Fund. Vendor donations for the raffle are appreciated. Details: 842-9397.
Blue and white auction
GILROY – Tickets are now on sale for the St. Mary School 17th Annual Blue and White Auction. This year’s auction will take place at the beautiful San Juan Oaks Golf Club, 3825 Union Road in Hollister, on Saturday, March 6. Una Bella Sera, the event theme, promises a delightful fare for all guests. Tickets are $75 per person with tables for eight available to accommodate your entire party. Proceeds from the event will fund the construction and furnishing of the school’s proposed Science Lab. Details: 842-2827.
Get down with Ragtime
GILROY – Performers Candace Fazzio and Jack Bradshaw will present “Unexpected Ragtime,” an afternoon of piano music of the Americas, past and present, on Saturday, March 6, at 2 p.m., in the Gilroy High School Theater. The concert is a benefit for the Gilroy High School Choral Program. Tickets are $10 for adults, $7 for students and free to children under 6.
