Rebekah Children’s Services Festival

Gilroy – Rebekah Children’s Services annual Spring Festival begins with a barbecue at 11:30am Saturday, April 24. The event includes crafts, games, food, desserts and lots of fun. Meals are $7.

There will be a yard sale with something for everyone.

On Sunday, April 24, there will be campus tours from 10am to noon and a silent auction from 10am to 2pm.

The highlight of Sunday will be Bob Dunham, a former resident, who is donating an iron gate he designed and built for the front driveway at Rebekah’s Children’s Services. The gate will be donated at 1pm on Sunday.

Ball benefits student scholarships

Gilroy – The Hispanic Chamber of Commerce presents the 17th annual “Ambassador’s Scholarship Ball” on Friday, May 6, from 6 to 11pm at the Gilroy Elks’ Lodge, 2765 Hecker Pass Road. Join for an evening of socializing, dinner, entertainment and dancing.

Students ages 18 to 23 of Hispanic descent will compete in Latin American themed performances wearing authentic costume. Scholarships will also be awarded.

No host social starts at 6pm, followed by dinner served at 7pm, the performances at 8pm and completed with dancing to DJ music afterwards.

Cost is $65 per person.

AAUW membership luncheon May 7

Gilroy – The Gilroy Branch of the American Association of University Women is holding a Spring Membership Luncheon on Saturday, May 7 to give interested persons an opportunity to learn more about AAUW. It will be held at Mama Mia’s Ristorante Italiano at 1360-B First St., Gilroy, from 11:30am to 2pm. Guests at the buffet luncheon will have a choice of Chicken Bernardo or Tortellini Pomodoro. Cost is $15.

Membership in AAUW is open to anyone with a BA or BS degree. The Gilroy Branch includes Hollister and San Juan Bautista. AAUW promotes equity for all women and girls, lifelong education and positive societal change.
