Deputies Seize $80M of Pot

San Jose – Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office Special Operations Deputies in conjunction with other law enforcement agencies, seized 20,000 marijuana plants spread over five gardens, just east of the James Lick Observatory on Mount Hamilton.

Once matured, these plants would have had a street value of more than $80 million. A loaded .22-caliber rifle was found at one of the campsites. No arrests were made during the raid, however the Sheriff’s Office Special Operations team believes that someone had just tended to one of the gardens before their arrival.

So far this year, the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office Marijuana Suppression Team has seized and destroyed more than 70,000 marijuana plants. The total street value of these plants is in excess of $280 million. In addition to the marijuana, three suspects have been arrested in raids this year.

Anyone with information can call Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office Marijuana Eradication Team Tip line at (408) 808-4420.
