Dogs will learn commands to walk on a leash, sit, sit-stay, down, down-stay, stand, come when called, finish and socialization. Class meets Wednesdays, from 5:15 to 6 p.m., April 14 through May 19, at Las Animas Veterans Park. Trainer Verne Carlino has 30 years experience instructing owners and training dogs. Past Commander Dinner
GILROY – The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6309 will host the 58th anniversary “Past Post Commander Dinner” at 74 W. Sixth St., on Saturday, April 17, at 6 p.m.
Event features no host cocktails. Dinner is free to all past post 6309 Commanders and guests are $10. Reservations are required by Thursday, April 15. Details: Gabe Perez at 847-2190.
Making music
GILROY – Ragtime and piano music fans are invited to attend an afternoon of music-making on Saturday, April 17, begining at 2 p.m. at the Monterey Street Music Academy, 7423 Monterey St. Join Music Academy Director Candace Fazzio, local pianist Jack Bradshaw and other professional musicians and learn about the music developed by composers from the United States. American music is beautiful, exciting, sensuous and virtually ignored in recital programs. See how these influential styles are still a living, growing part of musical genre. Time to throw it out
GILROY – During the week of April 19 through 23, Gilroy residents can set out seven additional 32-gallon cans/bags of garbage on regular garbage pickup day. Residents may also drop off two bulky items for free at San Martin Transfer Station, 14070 Llagas Ave. in San Martin, until July 31. Bulky items include mattresses, appliances, furniture, etc. Bring the original copy of your April billing statement to show you are a Gilroy resident. A fee of $22 will be charged for appliances containing Freon, such as refrigerators and freezers.
Gav library open to all
GILROY – Does your high school student need help writing a term paper? Looking for articles to further your career or enhance your hobbies? Do you become frustrated surfing the Internet for specific information, only to find mostly irrelevant Web sites? Come to the Gavilan College Library and try the state of the art electronic databases. Find magazine or newspaper articles from our periodical collection. With a photo I.D., you can even check out books from our circulating collection. The library is located at the center of the Gavilan College Gilroy Campus at 5055 Santa Teresa Blvd. Library hours this semester are Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Details: 848-4806.
