GILROY – Gavilan College and the South Valley Symphony present “Bach to Blues,” a concert featuring a wide range of music, on Friday, April 23, at 7:30 p.m. at the Gavilan College Theater, 5055 Santa Teresa Blvd.
The Gavilan College Choir will begin with a medieval chant, followed by Anh Bui, Maria Amirkhanian, Tomas Montoya, Albert Marques and Beverly Olivier-Blount with music by Bach, and finish with blues from Dave Pocella, John Garcia and Nate Pruitt with Primary Colors performing.
An informal reception will follow after the performances.
A commemorative CD with cuts by all of the musicians will be available. V.I.P. seating, including Bach to Blues mug and Starbucks coffee, is $25, general seating is $12, senior tickets are $10 ad students are $8.
Tickets are available at South Valley Symphony Outlets, Gavilan College Bookstore and Gavilan College Box Office at 6 p.m. on day of event.

GavFEST
GILROY – Gavilan College presents “GavFEST,” a day of fun, creativity and entertainment, on Saturday, April 24, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Gavilan College Campus, 5055 Santa Teresa Blvd.
Event and parking are free. The campus will be split into four quadrants for the event. Each will feature different activities, food, performers, music and entertainment. The Student Center will feature an Open House of the college programs and services for prospective students as well as entertainment. Visitors will carry a ‘passport’ and get it ‘punched’ at each quadrant they visit. Once the passport is punched, the holder becomes eligible to enter the grand prize drawing. Prizes include a plasma-screen TV and thousands of dollars in book scholarships.

Ladies serve Gilroy more than a century
GILROY – The Catholic Ladies Aid Society celebrated 116 years of charitable service to the Gilroy community.
President Felicia Rosas greeted members at a potluck luncheon at Serra Cottage on Thursday, March 4.
On Sunday, March 7, the celebration culminated with Mass followed by a breakfast at Serra Cottage. About 72 members and their families attended the breakfast, as well as Reverend Peter Seimas.
Entertainment was provided by the ‘Side by Siders’. One of the oldest organizations in Gilroy, the C.L.A.S. operates a religious store at
St. Mary Church, subsidizes the St. Joseph Family Center and contributes to other parish and community causes.
Dinner with the Ducks
GILROY – The 27th annual “Gilroy Ducks Unlimited Dinner” will be held on Friday, April 23, at the Historic Strand Theatre, 7588 Monterey St.
Cocktails will be served from 6 to 7:30 p.m., with dinner and a raffle following.

Discover fun
GILROY – Gilroy Community Service Department and Gilroy Rotary Club present “Kids Discover Arts 2004” on Saturday, April 24, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Wheeler Community Center, located at the corner of Sixth and Rosanna streets.
Local professionals will conduct more than 20 different hands-on arts workshops and activities for kids 5 through 11.
No one will be admitted after 2 p.m. Wear paint-friendly clothing. Sorry, no pets or strollers inside.
