Art Market at Gavilan
GILROY – Vendors of arts, crafts and gift items will be showcasing their work at the first Gavilan College Holiday Market. The Gavilan College Music Club will provide entertainment during the event. The public is invited to come to campus to do their holiday shopping. The event will happen Wednesday, Dec.11 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Student Center, Gilroy campus, 5055 Santa Teresa Blvd. This event is free and open to the public. On-campus parking is 75 cents. Artists’ reception
GILROY – Creative Catalyst is an exhibition currently on display at the Gavilan College Gallery, featuring artwork by art educators from Gavilan College and local high schools. Artists exhibiting artwork are: Dan Dwyer, Jane Edberg, KC Gonzalez, Jack Johnson, Arthur Juncker, Tim Kelly, Jacqueline Kurtt, Jane Rekedal, Sylvia Rios, Moisés Roizen, Louise Roy, and r2row. Artworks include ceramics, photography, drawings, paintings, fabric, murals, wood and mixed media.
The exhibition is on display now through Jan. 25. The public is invited to an opening reception for the artists on Thursday, Dec. 12 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the gallery. Dog adoptions
GILROY – San Francisco Bay Area German Shepherd Rescue, Inc., is holding its second Gilroy Adoption Showcase Day on Saturday, Dec. 14, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in front of the Gilroy Petco. The all-volunteer organization is dedicated to rescuing German Shepherds from shelters where they are in danger of being destroyed. Details: 278-8187.

Caroling workshop
GILROY – St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church invites the community of Gilroy to attend a Christmas Carol Workshop. The purpose of the workshop is to teach familiar carols to the young families and children of the community now that carols are no longer sung in the schools. We will become familiar with a number of Christmas carols as well as learn the history of the carols. The workshop is being held between 10 a.m. and noon at St. Stephen’s Church located at the corner of Wayland and Broadway behind the 7-11 Store on First Street. Details: 842-4415.
Wreath making party
GILROY – St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church invites the community to a wreath and swag making party on Saturday, Dec. 21. The event will take place in the Church Parish Hall between 9 a.m. and noon. Volunteers needed
GILROY – Saint Louise Regional Hospital in Gilroy has a constant need for volunteers. Adult volunteers are needed in patient services areas such as skilled nursing and infant-hearing screening. Volunteers are also needed in the gift shop and the information desk. People interested in volunteering must help out on at least two three-and-a-half hour shifts at the hospital each month. They need to fill out an application, have an interview with Volunteer Coordinator Gail Paccioretti, and attend an orientation meeting. Volunteers must also take a free tuberculosis skin test administered by hospital nurses. Details:

Holiday Food Drive
MORGAN HILL – The Police Officers’ Association (POA) and Community Service Officers’ Association (CSOA) of the Morgan Hill Police Department are pleased to announce their third annual Holiday Food Drive. The food drive will be conducted through Dec. 20. A collection barrel has been set up in the police department’s lobby for citizens wishing to donate non-perishable food items and canned goods. All donated items will be given to the St. Catherine’s Food Bank, which helps distribute food to those in our community who are hungry and in need. Donors withing to drop off items may do so Monday through Sunday between the hours of 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. Donors dropping off items after 5 p.m. and on weekends will need to press the intercom on the right-hand side of the front doors.
