banks on Saturday, when scouts will take part in the

food drive. On Nov. 9, scouts canvassed neighborhoods,
distributing collection bags. On Saturday, residents are asked to
leave the bags on their doorstep before 9 a.m., filled with
nonperishable, nutritious food items. These donations will be
distributed to Bay Area food banks, including St. Joseph’s Family
Center in Gilroy.

‘Sleepy Hollow’

GILROY – South Valley Civic Theatre presents its teen show “Sleepy Hollow.” Performances will be held one last weekend at the Gilroy High School Theater. ‘Fish Tales’

GILROY – The Gavilan College Theatre Arts Program presents “Fishtales! Stories of Fish from Around the World.” Marilyn Abad-Cardinalli, head of Gavilan College’s Theatre Arts Program, has woven three tales from around the world of fishermen and their luck into a delightful sketch for children. These tales, the German “Fisherman and his Wife,” the Arabian “Fisherman and the Genie” and the Burmese “Fisherman and the Gatekeeper” explore the realm of wishes, desires and their unexpected consequences.

Gav hair style show

GILROY – The Gavilan College Cosmetology Department’s annual Scholarship Fund raiser and Dinner Dance will be held today in the Gilroy Elks Lodge, 2765 Hecker Pass Road, starting at 6:30 p.m. Guests will be treated to a show of between 50 and 80 hair styles created by the students of the Gavilan College Cosmetology Department on live models. Both casual and formal styles will be exhibited. Afterwards, there will be dinner and dancing. The menu features chicken with white wine sauce, barbecue Santa Maria Steak, vegetable, potato, salad and coffee. There will be a no-host cocktail bar. Tickets are $35, $25 for students. Details:

Indian hosts fund raiser

GILROY – Indian Motorcycle Gilroy, 7191 Monterey Road, Gilroy will host the Frank Tomasetti Memorial Ride on Saturday. The ride starts at the dealership at 10 a.m. Live Music by the Backyard Blues Band and a tri-tip barbecue will begin at 1 p.m. A live NFL and Indian Motorcycle memorabilia auction will begin at 1:30 p.m. 49er and Raider autographed jerseys and footballs are just some of the items available. Tickets to win a Chief motorcycle can be purchased for $50 in advance or the day of the event at Indian Motorcycle Gilroy. You need not be present to win. Learn to cheer

GILROY – Gilroy High School Varsity Cheerleaders and Songleaders will host the GHS Cheer Clinic for ages 5 and up on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The clinic is for anyone interested in cheerleading or just having fun. The clinic will cover everything from stunting, cheer and jump technique to sidelines and dance. Come in comfortable clothes and shoes and bring a bag lunch, water bottle and extra money for snacks and the camp CD ($5). The cost of the clinic is $15.

Christmas arts and crafts

GILROY – The City of Gilroy Community Services presents its 34th annual Christmas Arts and Crafts Show on Friday, Nov. 15 from 2 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 16 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is 50 cents. Wine and cheese classic

GILROY – Solis Winery will hold its Wine and Cheese Fall Classic on Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. A fully gourmet experience, the event will demonstrate wine and cheese pairings with Solis wines and both domestic and imported cheeses. Holiday Decorating Contest

GILROY – The South County Realtors Association is sponsoring a holiday home decorating contest on Dec. 11. First prize is $75, with $50 and $25 prizes for second and third place. A $25 prize will be given for the best apartment or condo, and all entrants will be publicized in The Dispatch. A panel of judges will tour the city on Wednesday, Dec. 11 between 6 and 10 p.m. All residences within the Gilroy city limits are eligible. Decorations must be visible from the street.

Golf tournament

Walk on the wild side

MORGAN HILL – A series of bird walks is being led by Jane Haley, a National Park Service docent for 20 years and Wildlife Education and Rehabilitation Center volunteer. Upcoming walks will be Saturday, Nov. 16 and Dec. 14 from 9-11 a.m. Participants will discover an appreciation for local birds, their habits and ecological importance as they walk along the Coyote Creek Trail, north of Morgan Hill. Participants can attend one or all of the walks. Due to terrain, these walks aren’t recommended for young children.
