Concert-goers are invited to bring a picnic dinner, sit back and relax or dance and enjoy an evening in the park.

Strings perform in Portugal

The South Valley Suzuki String Academy has been touring Portugal since June 20. Two days after arriving, they played for group of about 130 children from local orphanages. Not only did they enjoy the music, but the Gilroy kids had fun meeting the children communicating as best they could.

The next day the entire group (about 65) visited Lajes Air Force Base for a tour, lunch and performance. As a special treat, in the audience was Ranelle Signorotti, daughter-in-law of long-time city employee Albert Singorotti. She has been stationed at Terceira for about a year. They saw the “running of the bulls” through the streets of Angra, and many went to a bull fight.

From Terceira the group moved to the island of Faial and the city of Horta, a quiet, sea-faring town. The kids played for school kids in the morning, and in a beautiful theater (Teatro Faialense) packed with residents.

Then, they flew to the biggest island in the Azores, Sao Miguel, where they visited a ceramic factory, geysers and hot springs where they cook traditional meats and vegetables in pots buried in the ground, a tea farm and beautiful overlooks of the lush valleys.
