Current trustee Francisco Dominguez has announced that he will run for one of the four open Gilroy Unified School District board seats in November.
Last week, Dominguez, who made an unsuccessful run for the 28th State Assembly District, sent out a letter thanking them for their support with his campaign.
“While I did not make it to the next level in my pursuit to the State Assembly, I am optimistic,” he wrote. “I say optimistic because I was a participant in a process that I truly believe in, our democracy.”
Dominguez said that he will support his former Democratic opponent – Watsonville Mayor Luis Alejo, who garnered 52.3 percent of the Democratic vote in the June primaries – while making another run for school board.
The filing period for the school board race does not begin until July 12, according to the school district. Four seats will be open, including those currently occupied by Dominguez, trustees Tom Bundros and Denise Apuzzo, and interim trustee Jaime Rosso – who was appointed to his post in April after former trustee Javier Aguirre stepped down.
