DEAR EDITOR:
I remember in 1980 (plus or minus a year) when Safeway’s (SEI) union drones (at the time, they occupied the building that is now the Grocery Outlet) were picketing. A friend and I (age 15) rode our bikes to get some chips and other snacks. We were threatened by two of the pickets. Why do unions control their members’ pensions? (Answer: to prevent them from future de-certification.)
If that many local people agree with union apologist John Reese (Feb. 24), who suspiciously omits any mention of the typical union racketeering (extortionist) practices mentioned above, then they can continue to patronize the local union shops. I for one welcome Super Wal-Mart!
