Gilroy on Oct. 22, 2002.
Douglas R. Fick, Sr. passed away peacefully at his home in Gilroy on Oct. 22, 2002. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Kay Fick of Gilroy. He is also survived by his daughter and her husband, Jennifer and Tom Doak of Gilroy; his daughter and her husband Nancy and Patrick Armstrong of San Diego; and his son, Douglas R. Fick, Jr. and girlfriend Jennifer Taggert of Gilroy. Doug is the grandfather of Thomas, Nicholas and Mallory Doak all of Gilroy. He is the son of Irene Fick of Coon Rapids, Iowa. He is survived by his sisters and their spouses, Jane and Leonard Erb of Springfield, Mo.; Violet Goodwin of Jefferson, Iowa; Juanita and Francis Fitzhenry of Phoenix, Ariz.; his brothers and their spouses, Dennis and Merideth Pierce, of Adel, Iowa; and Delane and Cindy Fick of Rogersville, Mo. He was brother to the late Dale Fick of Coon Rapids. He is survived by his mother-in-law Jean Stenstrom of Coon Rapids, and was son-in-law to the late Willard Heydon of Coon Rapids. He is also survived by a large extended family of aunts, uncles, brother and sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews and loved ones.
Doug was born in Manning, Iowa on Aug. 17, 1946. He moved to Gilroy 27 years ago from Jefferson, Iowa. Doug was a juvenile diabetic and survived two kidney transplants. He fought a tough fight and appreciated every day of his life. He was a beloved husband, father and a true friend. For those who were fortunate enough to know Doug we will remember him as hard working and courageous. Doug touched the hearts of all who knew him and will be dearly missed.
A Visitation will be held Thursday, Oct. 24 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Habing Family Funeral Home in Gilroy. Services will be on Friday, Oct. 25 at 1 p.m. at the Habing Family Funeral Home.
