Residents are being asked to trade their flip-flops for dancing shoes this summer as weekly music series Fifth Street Live returns to Downtown Gilroy.
The concert series kicked off Friday with Blue Dog entertaining concertgoers.
From 7 to 9 p.m. for 10 Fridays this summer, Fifth Street between Monterey Road and Eigleberry Street will be home to free concerts put on by the Gilroy Downtown Business Association and the Gilroy Arts Alliance. Event co-chair Kersty Daniels said previous summers included only eight concerts.
Country, rock, bluegrass and other genres will be represented, said Sylvia Myrvold, Gilroy Arts Alliance president.
“Every weekend it’s something different,” she said.
Eric Howard, president of the Downtown Business Association, said the concerts would allow visitors to see some of downtown’s newest additions, including a speaker system installed last month.
“Where else can you attend a downtown program where you can listen to music, have a little picnic, put on your dancing shoes and have a good time?” Howard said.
Concertgoers are asked to bring their own chairs.
There will be concert no Friday, July 29 because the Gilroy Garlic Festival begins that day, Myrvold said.
