Eagle Ridge Golf Club takes part in nation-wide golf program
from July 6 through 11
GILROY – In support of “Take Your Daughter to the Course Week,” Eagle Ridge Golf Club is offering free golf to young women July 6-11.
The offer – and the aim – a are simple: Give young ladies a chance to experience “the greatest game” with someone they love, and maybe find the sport to last a lifetime.
Any young lady under 18 may play a complimentary round of golf at Eagle Ridge from July 6-11 when they are accompanied by an adult paying a regular greens fee. Cart rental is required for both players Friday through Sunday to keep play moving during busy weekend times.
“Eagle Ridge has a consistent track record of supporting programs that reach out to future golfers across the social and economic spectrums of our society,” said PGA General Manager Mark Gurnow. “Golf is truly the universal game, and it’s every industry professsional’s responsibility to share it with new and old players of every generation.”
In addition, Eagle Ridge always offers free greens feesd to any junior – male or female – during any twilight hours when accompanied by a full-paying adult.
Take Your Daughter to the Course Week is a joint promotional effort of the Naional Golf Course Owners Association, Ladies’ Professional Golf Association, Executive Women’s Golf Association, LPGA-USGA Girls Golf, and Golf For Women magazine.
“Young women who learn to play the game build self-esteem and confidence through their participation,” National Spokeswoman Suzy Whaley said. “It is a game that spans generations and professions that can be enjoyed for a lifetime.”

“What other sport offers amateurs of any skill level the opportunity to walk in the footsteps of the greatest players in the game? I may never play baseball at Wrigley Field, but I have played a round at St. Andrews,” Gurnow said. “We want everyone to be able to enjoy golf. That means helping new players to develop useable skills and to have some fun out there, especially when they are new to the game.”
Besides supporting “Take Your Daughter to the Course Week,” Eagle Ridge and Gurnow are helping the Norther California Section of the PGA establish “Growth of the Game,” a nationwide program with several elements designed to reach out to new players, make the game more affordable, and foster player retention.
In the past, the PGA has awarded grants to Eagle Ridge Director of Instruction Scott Krause, who designed the free golf lessons for minority youths in the are. Krause has youth programs available throughout the summer. Eagle Ridge also supports local high school, junior college and Santa Clara University golf teams with practice rounds and match sites at not charge.
