A drunk local woman driving on the wrong side of the road hit a parked car and was airlifted to an area trauma center late Monday night, police said.

Police did not identify the 21-year-old woman, who lives in Gilroy, because they have not arrested her, Sgt. Jim Gillio said. Instead, officers forwarded reports to the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office, which could issue an arrest warrant soon. Police typically do not arrest an injured person suspected of a crime until after they receive medical treatment. If police do arrest someone before they receive treatment, the city has to pay the doctor’s bill.

Just before midnight Monday, the woman veered onto the wrong side of West Las Animas Avenue near Connell Court in north Gilroy, police said. Her 1995 Nissan Sentra crashed into a 1990 GMC pick-up truck.

There were no witnesses when officers arrived, and the woman was unable to speak, Gillio said.
