The Gilroy Economic Development Corporation announced Tuesday it is accepting applications for president.

Tammy Brownlow has served as the EDC’s interim president since December 2010, one month after the resignation of then-president Richard Spitler. She will be a candidate for the job.

In a press release, EDC Board President Kurt Michielssen was quoted as saying, “We all want to recognize Ms. Brownlow for her outstanding leadership during this pivotal time of transition. In keeping with the organization’s procedural requirements, we are opening the application and selection process to all interested candidates.”

The EDC is a nonprofit organization that works with the Gilroy Chamber of Commerce, the Gilroy Downtown Business Association, the City of Gilroy and local businesses. The EDC president is responsible for planning and facilitating programs that promote economic development in Gilroy, according to the press release.

In May, the city approved a two-year budget that bumped the EDC’s yearly funding from $96,000 to $200,000.

The EDC is accepting applications through July 29, according to the press release.

Applications can be submitted to Michielssen via email at [email protected].

Job requirements and other information about the position can be found at www.gilroyedc.com/presidentsearch.html.
