Gilroy – Through the second round of a first-stage PGA Tour Qualifying Tournament being held at San Juan Oaks Golf Club, local golfer John Ellis sits in fourth place.

The 25-year-old Live Oak graduate must finish in the top 20 after the final two rounds today and Friday to move on to the second stage of the qualifying tournament.

After two rounds of 68, Ellis (-8) sits three strokes behind leader Andrew Buckle (-11). Craig Kanada and Michael Putnam are tied for second at 9-under.

Hundreds of golfers around the country compete in the qualifying tournaments, also known as Q-School, with the ultimate goal of making it on the PGA Tour.
