Dear Editor:
On behalf of the Gilroy High School Band Boosters, and as the 2003 Gilroy High School Marching Band and Color Guard Competition coordinators, we invite you to Mustang Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 25 for the 11th Annual GHS Marching Band and Color Guard Competition music and dance extravaganza. As you may know, the GHS Marching Band and Color Guard are the 2002 Class A state champions.
Saturday’s show features 12 exceptional bands from all over central and northern California. If you have never been to a band competition, you are in for a real treat; do not leave early! The Class AAAA bands such as James Logan and Clovis West will mesmerize you with their enormity, grace, stupendous talent, and overall musical effect. Plus, Live Oak’s Emerald Regime, 2002 Class AA state champions, will perform as well. What’s more, this year’s show will cap the evening with the San Jose State Marching Spartans.
The proceeds from the competition will be used to support Gilroy High School band programs, not only helping students improve their music and dance talents, but will aid the necessary expenditures that go along with a high school music program such as transportation, maintenance and repair of instruments, and uniforms. Thank you to Gilroy community members for their donations, volunteers, and especially the GHS band show chairs for their time and talents. Without YOU none of this would be possible.
Moreover, we have an excellent concession stand featuring Gilroy High’s famous “pepper steak sandwich” loaded with garlic and grilled vegetables; tables for message grams, buttons, and plenty of ushers/hosts to accommodate your needs.
Let’s make this a safe, fun-filled evening for all. Performers from all bands spend countless hours not only honing their musical/dance talents, but keeping up with their academic studies, too. Show your support by attending the 11th Annual GHS Marching Band and Color Guard Competition. Without you, “the musical community” events like this would not be possible. Venues like these provide the means for students to express themselves in a positive manner through creativity in the performing arts. In times of state budget cuts, we feel it is imperative for community involvement concerning the arts.
As a note, because of the size of the Class AAAA bands (300 performers), bands will be warming-up along the outside perimeter of Gilroy High School. Please be patient with the sounds emanating from GHS on Saturday evening.
The gates open at 5 p.m. Tickets are $8 for adults; $5 for children. Competition begins promptly at 6 p.m after the presentation of colors by the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the singing of the National Anthem by GHS choir members.
We hope to see you there. “Keep the Performing Arts Alive!”
Rick and Linda Charvet, 2003 GHS Marching Band & Color Guard Show Coordinators
