According to Pet Focus, a nonprofit, animal rights-advocate organization, cats (or dogs, for that matter) sometimes drag themselves across carpet if they’re constipated, or have diarrhea or irritated anal glands. The problem usually is physical and not behavioral, according to the organization, so try not to use punishment as aversion.
Contact your vet, however, to see what the specific problem is. It could be as serious as worms and need immediate attention.
