Dear Editor,

Wednesday morning, our granddaughter was sent to the school nurse. When she was released back to class, no one was there. Her class was taken to another room. The school nurse did not informed her teacher that she was released from the nurse’s office. Her teacher did not inform the nurse that she was taking the class to another room.

There was a field trip coming up our granddaughter was very excited about it. She checked around the school grounds for her class thinking they left without her. She was able to walk off school grounds to try and catch up with them.

A police officer found her walking near the entrance to Christmas Hill Park. He picked her up and brought her back to Glenview School.

My daughter and her husband are very upset that their 7-year-old daughter was able to just walk off school grounds unnoticed.

Also, she was not supervised by her teacher or the school nurse during the process of looking for her class. Our whole family was affected by this. We were terrified at the thought of what might have happened. Thank God everything turned out OK, just the what-if’s remain in our thoughts.

Glenview School is taking the position that this incident is my granddaughter’s fault. I think that the Glenview staff needs to wake up. If a 7-year-old girl can walk off campus unnoticed, then a stranger can walk on campus unnoticed. I do not understand how the school officials can take this incident so lightly. This is a big flaw in the school’s responsibility.

When your child is in school you expect proper supervision and that an incident such as this will not happen. In this case no real harm came of it, but things could of easily turned very bad.
